How an etching or print is created?
Etching is a printing process in which an etching needle is used to draw into wax ground applied over a metal plate (most often copper). The plate is then submerged in acid bath which bites only into the exposed parts of the metal surface. The wax is then removed, ink is forced into the etched depressions, the unetched surfaces are wiped, and an impression is printed with a special printing press. After the print is produced, this artist water colors each etching by hand.
